FURTHER LOCAL SUCCESSES. FIRST AND SECOND SECURED. The results from Ballarat yesterday were highly satisfactory and will be received wich great satisfaction. By private cable late last night it was announced that the Band had secured premier place in the trombone trio contest, vi which there were eleven entrants. The successful Tiniaru men were Bandsmen L. Collins, I<\ Brown, and J. Allan. In the brass septette there were 14 entrants and. the local . bandsmen .secured second place. The brass quartette was down for decision last evening, in which there were 25 .entries, but no result was received by the time the telegraph office closed. The serious business of the contestwill commence to-day, when the "A" grade test piece and quick step will be heard.
