SOCIAL TO THE -QUEENS.'' A complimentary social to the candidates for the Temuka Queen ol' the Carnival was lield in the Dominion Theatre. Temuka, on Tuesday ovenii.L'. The ladies thus honoured were .Misses Macaulay, "Waiving, Parke. K.ckus, and Coombs. The function was-' on a large scale, and passed off most successfully. Music was supplied by Owen's* orchestra, and with such thoroughness had all the preparations been made that every condition essential to an enjoyable evening was present, and general satisfaction was iv -i..-,., ; „(l with the whole of the- arrangements. The lloor had been specially prepared, and the building was brightly lighted by electricity. The stage was furnished as a drawing-room, and this provision for the comfort oi non-dancers was fully appreciated. At about D.30 the Mayor (Mr 11. IT. Hayhurst) made the presentations to the Queen of the Carnival candidates—£s 5s to Miss Macaulay (who topped the poll), and £:i 3s to each of the others.
