TIMARU—THURSDAY, APRIL, 15". (Before Mr V. G, Day/ S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A. first offender was fined os. or 24 hours' imprisonment for drunkenness. Walter 13. Gilchrist for a fourth breach of his prohibition order was fined 40s and costs. INDECENCY. John Fitzgerald came up for sentence on a charge of indecency at Caroline Bay. SuMnspeetor Slieehan emphasised the importance of the offence in a place like the Bay, which was frequented by so many women and children. Accused put tho ' offence down to drink. The Magistrate said he would have to convict and there was no option of a fine. The- sentence would be three months' imprisonment. RIDING WITHOUT LIGHTS. There was another batch of offenders for ruling bicycles at night without a light. The following were each fined 10s and costs 7s.:—Charles Dawson, F. Newton, R. A. Otway. R. S. Goodman. Henry R. Dodd, R. Irvine, R. Buowii. E. Engelbrecht, E. Perrin, W. Cooper. AYm. Scoweu. Victor Buckley, a youth, and Annie Lack were ordered to pay costs. George Fox for driving a motor car along Evans Street at a greater pace than 10 miles per hour, was committed on the evidence of Constable Murphy, Waimataitai, and' fined 40s and cost*. LICENSING CASE. The charge against W. N. Jones, late licensee of the Excelsior Hotel, re-. milted from the Supreme Court on appeal, of permitting the sale of liquor to a person in a. state of intoxication was again called. The Magistrate said he considered the fine already imposed and the cost of the-appeal which wouMhave to _ lieborne by. defendant, sufficient punishment. Ho imposed a fine of Is and costs 7s.
