Grey of causing the war "The Times" states that Herr Ballin wrote a letter, published on 12th. August under tho heading "Gorman Press Manoeuvres/' wherein Herr Ballin stated that Russia alone was responsible. BRITISH ■WHEAT SUPPLY. When hei'te General Godley received £ICK)O a. year and a house allowance of £250, but a- Major-General in the British Army on active service receives in pay and allowances about £I7OO a. year. The Government could not see how to do otherwise than pay General Godley this extra salary, -especially as MajorGeneral Davis, a New Zealander, is receiving a Major-Gen ?ral ? s pay from the Imperial authorities!
