TEMUKA FIRE BRIGADE
ANNUAL MEETING. _ The 40th annual meeting uf the Teuiuka, Eire Brigade was held on Monday evening, Mr G. Hancos pres.'tling.
Tho annual report recorded with deep regret the death or the late Mr George McSheehy Gentlemun, who was at the tiino of his death the only remaining member of t.ho original "brigade- Tho Brigade had attended fire fires during tho year and in each case useful salvage work had Veen done, and valuable property rescued. The Brigade still felt t.ho need of the pumping plant allowed for in. tho gravitation scheme, that would give tho necessary pressure for effective work in the bigger tires, but doubtless this would come in time, and as soon as the Council's finances were in a sufficiently strong position an application would bo made for the plant. Meantime, despite the somewhat inadequate pressure, they had an abundant water supply, a fact that had oonsldornb'v enlarged the usefulness of the Brigade. Ifc was hoped that when finances permitted tho Council would eonsd-T any request, the Brigade may mako in i-pct.-cI to tho loni-n«*eded Fire Britrnd* station. Lea.-e of absence had crnnterl to Firemen Dunf'ird and Moore, who had volunteered for the front. Teams representing the Brigade competed at the F.F.B.A. clem oust ration at Timaru and at St. Patrick's Sports at Gernldine. and though no noteworthy successes were achieved the experience gained may serve a valuable purpose in the future. During the year Captain Grant and Fireman Lewis resigned, and the resignations had been accepted with regret. Mr .Tamos Allen had been elected a member of the Brigade. The finances of the Brigade were not so healthy r.s could be desired, tho credit balance at. the hank being fourpe-n.ee and the outstanding liabilities £5 4-s 9d.
T"ho balance sheet showed receipts amounting to £32 12.s lod. including a credit balance, at. the beginning of the year of £2 12s lOcl. and an expenditure of £32 12s fid.
The report rind balance, sheet were adopted. ■ T'lo following officers wore elected:— Captain. Mr G. Ham-ox; lieutenant, Mr J. Ilenrv; senior foreman, Mr B. Norton : junior foreman. Mr A. F'inTlay; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. Findlay: auditors, Messrs Norton ;.nd Allen; ho", siircreon, Dr Hue:;:. Tlio secretriTv was instnicted to apply to the. Council for a grant.
