THE ILLINOIS TORNADO. Press Association—By Tel—Copyright. NEW YORK, April 24. Tho tornado previously reported In Illinois corered a larger area than was at iirst believed to be the case. Eighty persons ale known to have heeu killed by collapsing houses or falling trees. Hundreds of homes have been levelled in ono district, people being crushed to death by tho debris. A FATAL FIRE. SYDNEY, April 24. The Commercial Stores at Mundooran have been destroyed by fire. The damago is estimated at £30,000. Lionel Martin, a shop assistant, who was sleeping on tho premises, was overcome by smoke and incinerated. Another assistant escaped. As the Misses Thoreau were e'riviiig along North Street, on Tuesday evening their horse was twice in y/uek nu?cession badly startled, and tho second time-, in getting tho horse unJer control a rein broke. The horso made a sudden turn on the. pull of the oilier, and both ladies were thrown out. Mfes Thoreau wa.s badly cut about the fa.'e and head. Fortunately Dr Unwin happened to bo iu iho Vicinity, and ut-tend.-xl to thoni, and later they were enabled to go home. The horse broke out of tho vehicle, ran away and vas caught in College Road. A man named Thomas Grubb, ajied 45 years, fell when alighting from' a moving- train at Henderson, Auckland, and his injuries proved fatal.
