THE BOERS RETIRE FROM STANDERTON.
ARRIVAL OF AUSTRALIAN INVALIDS.
Received 4.40 p.m., June 24. LONDON, June 23. General Dundonald has arrived at Standerton. The enemy had previously re- j tired. They blew up the railway bridge. Received 5 p.m., June 24. MELBOURNE, June .24. The Australian brought twenty-six invalided soldiers from South Africa, the majority belonging to the New South Wales mounted forces. There are no New Zealanders. They are mostly victims of fever. Surgeon-Major Poll, of South Australia, succumbed to typhoid shortly before the steamer arrived. Reeived 5 p.m., June 24. LONDON, June 23. After the battle of Erstefabricken the Australian mounted men doggedly pursued the enemy, and approached within 800 yards of their laager unperceived.firing 150 rounds. The Boers trekked m great confusion. A powerful rearguard, however, forced the Astralians to retire, which they did coolly and without loss.
