He recognises the sincerity of the proposal but urges that so-called reunion without recognition "would not only be our farewell to other churches, but we should be called on to forget our own church." Dr Benson calls on churchmen to preserve the faith and practices of their own primitive Catholic Church. Roman modes and rewards of worship are repugnant to teutonic Christendom. Canada has renewed the mail contract with the Allan line for one year. ARREST OF AN ANARCHIST. Paris, September 5. An. anarchist, w?*o was carrying abomb, attempted to light the fuse inside Rothschild's bank. A detective who observed him immediately seized the man, and m the struggle the fuse was fortunately extinguished. The scoundrel was arrested. Shortly before closing the bank, the police saw a man enter the building concealing something under his coat, and followed him. On searching the staircase leading to the first story the man was caught trying to light the ( fuse at the end of a cigarette. Upon seeing the policeman he threw the bomb violently on the ground, but the thick carpet prevented an explosion. The would-be assassin rushed into the street, but finding it impossible to escape drew a razor and tried to cut the policeman's throat. The latter drew his sword and held the Anarchist at bay while a second gendarme seized him. THE KUCHENG TROUBLE. Shanghai, September 6. Further executions of the ringleaders m the assassinations at Kucheng, have taken place. The inquiry is proceeding smoothly. REVIVAL OF NIHILISM. St. Petersburg, September 5.
