FROZEN MEAT CONFERENCE.

The Frozen Meat Conference resumed at 10 a.m. After further discussion the second clause m Mr Begg's series of resolutions, affirming the desirability of a uniform system of grading, was carried on the voices. The third clause, to the^ffect that the storage accommodation .- in. the colony should be increased m order to regulate supplies, was carried without discussion. MrOrbell's proposals were then considered. *' The first resolution, for the appointment pf a permanent committee to watch the interests of the trade, was agreed to ; as also was the second clause* urging the appointment of inspectors m the .slaughterhouses to examine the sheep b.efpre.being, killed. . The third proposal, that the Government should assist m the erection of cool stores^t various ports, was lost by a very large majority. Mr Orbell moved and, Mr Phillips seconded— " That with a view to the concentration .of the trade m Great Britain, it is desirable that the distribution of our meat should be placed m the hands of as few agents as possible, and this ., Conference strongly recommends the., freezing ■.companiea and. others interested to give effect to this resolution as far as practicable." — This was agreed to. \ It wwavs v decided .to approach the Go Vr eminent arid urge that the month of January be substituted for the present date m making up sheep, returns. The Secretary for Agriculture informed the Conference that the agricultural statistics would m future be collected m November and the returns be ready before March. Mr Fisher, Waikato, said that the statements as to the spread of anthrax had been greatly exaggerated. The disease had spon been staniped "out.
