Mr Mendelson proposed, Mr Ostler secon ded, and it was resolved, " That should th Q-overnment agree to take over allotment No 17 of rural section No. 7555 Timaru district and all the real and peraonil property of thi Timaru and Gladstone Board of Works comprising their offices, at a valuation to bi arrived at by arbitration m tho usual manner this Board hereby agrees to such sale on tin understanding that the proceeds of the saic valuatio-i be immediately thereafter diricl«d araonget the various Road Boards of Soutli Canterbury, and the Borough of Timaru pro rata m nccordance with their representation or the said Board ; but m the event of fie Go vernraput declining to do so, then this Board hereby resolves thnt the said section and office as above described, and all the real and personal property belonging to the said Board, shall become the property of the Chairmen of the South Canterbury R)ad Boards, and the' Mayor.of the Borough of Timaru m trust for the said Road Boards, •and the : Borough of Timaru, also^jro rata m accordance with their representation on the Board, and with power to dispose of all. such property m any manner they may deem right ; nnd it is hlso hereby resolved that Mr T. W. Hall, theprpsent Chairman of the Board, and Messrs H. Cain and P. H. Rus^ sell are hereby empowered to execute a title and see the foregoing resolution carried out." Resolved— "That this . 80-rd wishes.. to record a vote of thanis to T. W. Hall, Esq., for his vuluible services during his term of office a* Chairman " The Board here ndjourned, nnd reassembled, at 3 p.m. Resolved — " That this Board desire to record their appreciation of the services of Mr Tate as secretary and treasurer to the Board during the last fivo ypars." Resolved—" That the Bonn! desire to express their thanks to, and appreciation of, the services of Mr John Rochfort during the time that he has filled the position of their engineer." Resolved — "That tho Secretary be requested to forwurd to the Mayor of Timaru and the Chairman of the various Road Boards m South Canterbury a copy of the resolution passed by Jthe Board to-day m reference to the disposal of the property of the Board." The members spoke m terms of the highest praise of their officers. They alluded to the great, care with which. Mr Tnre had discharged his duties, and to the obliging disposition which he had always evinced towards them, and hoped thnt he would occupy an official position m the governing bodies that wereto lake the place of those that had been abolished. They spoke m similarly praiseworthy terms of Mr Rochfort, as regarded both his ability and his courteous mauDer, and sincerely hoped that the district would not lose his valuable services. The officers alluded to returned thanks. After the minutes had been rea-l and confirmed the meeting terminated.
