FATAL ACCIDENT AT FIJI.
A sad mishap occurred to one of our community on Wednesday morning last,' in the person of Mr Louis Myers, s* gentleman much respected- in our midst, and who, during his short-'sojourn amongst ud has initiated, himself into'the good opinions of his neighbours. .It ap- : pears that Mr: Myers was-in the habit of' bathing in a pool bmeath the Waitovu Falls, where he daily resorted, and, being,'; no swimmer, itis supposed he got out of his depth and thus met with his early and ' untimely end. He was a resident of Auckland, where his wife and three' children are at present residingj'and' his! occupation in Fiji was that of a c'ommis-' sion agent. The first witness called' was a native woman. ' She deposed finding the clothes, of deceased on a. rock, and'seeing his, body at the bottom of the waterhole. She a.t once communicated the,-facts tp the police. Bho had never seen deceased before, nor had she seen any person about, the waterhole that morning.'-'There were no marks of violence on bis person. His body was quite naked. ' ! : • Potaki, a native, examined :'! was at the waterhole ■ this-morairig, 'with the police; at their command I dived for the body, and brought it to the surface.' The depth of. water was 12 feet, and the body lay at the bottom. IJiave never seen him before. I noticed no marks or bruises .on bis body. . . Solomon Levy sworn : reside in Levuka, and knew deceased. Ho has been about seven wSekS'in ..Fiji; I'once bathed with him three wee'lrs ago, when I found he could not swiria,. and warned him against going out of his depth.
