MINING MATTIRS.

AfeENGElt's TlilliUTE.—A small Crtlßhing of 5 tons of stuff has been completed at the Shiiturock buttery, for White aud parly, tributors in Messenger's claim. The return was payable, amounting to s,'zs 16d\vts gold.

West Coast Tbibute.—This tribute party completed a crushing last night-at the shamrock battery, and retorting will tako place to-day. The stuff, on the whole, has shown up fairly on the plates; and there is no doubt the result of the retorting to-day will bo satisfactory.

Manukau". — This mine, instead of showing symptoms of deterioration is, on Ihc contrary, improving, for on Tuesday one iine parcel of stuff, weighing Scivl, was treated at the mill, aud on the same night a fine parcel of 2e\vt of specimens cime to hand from the No. 2 seef, where the mineral vein of No. 2 reef formed a junction with it. There was no work done on the gold yesterday, as the men were employed trucking stuff, hue they will resume wurk on the golden faco today. I here is a good show, and splendid indications left in the face, and perhaps to-morrow there will bo a similarly good haul. Meanwhile the crushing is showing up well for a handsomo all-round avcraga. Waiotahi. --There was a very good show of gold in the stopes on the 3-feefc reef yesterday, and there is a likelihood of a good ricii patch being found above the main level after all. The crushing is going on as usual.

Golden MFK.—The section of the reef in the m olden Spur mine which was stripped was broken down yesterday, and although there were not many specimens found, there was a good rich show of 'general stuff, containing heavy blotches of the precious metal. There will be a crushing for the company nest week, and from the quality of the stuff contaiued in this lode, the yield should be a heavy one. The lode maintains a good formation downwards, and will doubtlessly carry gold to the adit level and below it.

Queen of Beauty.—Crushing for the Queen of Beauty this fortnight is showing up for a yield fully equal to that of last cleaning up. In fact there is very little change noticeable, and the amalgam forms with remarkable regularity on the plates. There will be another heavy dividend accruing to the shareholders out of this fortnight's crushing. There is no particular change noticeable in the new level of the mine. The No. 2 reef, the only one which has yet come to hand, is not opened yet, aud it is likely that so>>:< driving will have to be done before the No. 1 is reached.

Exc iangb. -Crushing for the Exchange whs commenced yesterday witii 10 head of stampers at the Kuranui battery. This stuff, as we have already stated, is from the winze workings. It may, in fact, be accepted as a trial of the new level of the No. 1 reef, and as such its prospects are at present very much superior to those of the upper workings. The last crushing included a quantity of stuff from ibis new level, which did not show up particularly well, but since then a better class of stone with gold showing freely, in it has been uncovered, ami there are therefore better prospects for the present crushing than there were for the last one,

Bijight iSiirtß.—The Bright Smile crushing this week, if it does not show a very great improvement, certainly shows no deterioration. In fact it is almost certain that there has been a perceptible improvement during the last few days, and as the greater portion of the stuff is coming to hand from the new level, the prospect is, to say the least, encouraging In addition to the company's own battery this week, there are 20 head of stampers employed at the Imperial Crown battery, and there the stuff is showing up for as good an average, as that obtained from the company's own mill. Indeed, tho stuff is of the same quality at both mills, for it ia takeu promiscuously. The No. 2 reef in the bottom level is in every respect a fine lode. It is large, and shows gold occasionally, and appears so far to crush as well as the average of the stuff from the upper level, but the Wo. 1 reef is very much disturbed. There has been too much oi a conjunction of reefs at this level near the No. 1, and the latter has suffered, but it may bo developed into a well-defined lodo when it is followed further from those junctions. At present it is not so, nor does it look so well for gold as it did in the upper workings.
