SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS.

—e — THAMES SCHOOL.

The distribution of prizes in this school took place yesterday morning. Mr Rowe, Chairman of the Waiotahi School Committee, occupied the chair. Mr Porter and Mr o'lf aire, members of the School Committee, were also present, and in opening the proceedings, made some appropriate remarks to the children.

The prize list was then read, the books being hauded to the children by Mrs James Hill. The following were the prize-takers: - Ist class, David Berry, Henry Guthrie; 2nd class, Jessie Paterson, John Peat; lower 2nd class, Annie Joll; 3rd class, Andrew Browning, David Browning; lower 3rd class, Margaret Briton; 4th class, Henry Blott. Infants' Ist class, William Maxwell, Sarah Kennedy; 2ud class, Alexr, Dunn, Louisa Eyland, Walter Wraith, Harriet Morrison. Arithme-tic.-Ist, Albert Grigg. Composition.— Ist, Claude Colcbrook ;* 2nd, Charles Hannken;3rd, J. Tredinniclt. Secving. Annie Kerr, Margaret MoKenna, Bella Kerr, Edith Maingay, Ailleen Gerreighty. Eev V. Lush then addressed the children, complimenting them upon their good order and discipline. Mr O'Haihe said he hoped that during the holidays they would continue to regard each other as school and that they would assemble at the end of the vacation in good health and spirits. He was convinced that with such schools as these, they had better opportunities of learning than most of their friends had. He urged them to make the best of their time, so that they might acquire knowledge which would be useful and beneficial for the rest of their lives.

Mr Poktee said that he would ask the children to take a message from him to their parents. He was sorry to see the want of interest taken in the school by the parents of the children, as shown by the very small number of them present. He would also request tho parents to send them more regularly, as that school had the worst average attendance of any at the Thames. On the part of the committee he thanked Mr Goodwin, Mr Compton, Mrs Pilkington, and the assistant teachers for the manner in which they had conducted the school during the past year.

Mr Goodwin returned thanks, and intimated that it was his intention to open a class for the higher branches of education after the holidays, if a superior school were not opened. He said that only those fitted would be admitted to such a class. KAUWAERANGA SCHOOLS. The examinations in these, schools were conducted yesterday, but the distribution of prizes will not take place till this evening, at tho Volunteer Hall. The examinations at the Boy' School were conducted by Mr Mcllhone, and at the Girls' School Mr W. Wilkinson, Mr E. H. Power and Mr Bagnall assisted in the examination of the exercises. The prizes for needlework were adjudged by a committee of ladies. MRS FLEETWOOD'S SCHOOL. The Girls' School in Pollen-street, conducted by Mrs Fleetwood, broke ud for the Christmas holidays on Monday 'last. Before the vacation the annual presentation of prizes, given by the mistress of the school, took place in presence of a number of visitors and friends of Ihe scholars. The pupils were put through various exercises by the schoolmistress, and by visitors, serving to show the efficiency of the school, and the progress made by the children under Mrs Fleetwood s tuition. After the examinalion the prizes were distributed by Mrs Wilkinson as follows :—
