QUALIFICATION" OP REPRESENTATIVE RIFLEMEN.

The Thames flifla Hangers and the No. 3 Company occupied the ranges yesterday, and competed for positions amongst the 18 from whom the representatives are to be selected. Captain Hazard, of No. 2 Company, superintended the shooting in the morning, and Lieut. Hoskin, of the same company, in the afternoon. Vol. Fenton, of the Thames Eifle Bangers, made a splendid score of 93 points, which is the highest yet made in the district, and Vol. McEee, of the same company, also made a splendid score of 88 points. Staff Sergeant-Major Grant shot splendidly at the 200 and 400 yards ranges, where he made 11 successive bull's eyes. To-day the Naval Brigade and those members of the No 2 Company who have not fired will occupy the range, and the firing is to be under the supervision of Captain Murray and Lieut, Dey, of the Thames Scottish. Tho following are the scores made yesterday: Vol. Fenton, T H.R. - . 93 Vol. McKee.T.O, - - 88 Staff Sergt.-Mnjor Grant - 87 Vol. Hicks, T.k.R. - . 79 Lieut. Baylden, T.O, - 77 Vol. Shcppard, T.fl.R. . 77 Vol. Graham, No. 3 . . 71 Vol. Trenwith, No. 3 .70 Vol. Young, T.R.tt, . 68 Sergeant Gilpin, T.K.R. . 64 Vol. Graham, No. 3 - . 60 Vol.Mears.T.O, . . 59 Vol. Howe, TJU. - . 52 Vol. Loims, No. 3 . . 5L Sergeant Oarnie, T.K.E. . 48 Vol. Fletcher, No. 3 . .42 Vol. Tratford, No. 3 - . 41 Vol. Newman, No. 3 - . 40 Some irregularity was reported yes lerday morning in the size of tho target centre at_ the 200 yards range, and on examination,t was found that the centre was above the rega] a ti onsizo . A protest was entered »» the scores of those who bad flred prior to the discovery, in consequence, but R3 the firing on 'the previous day had p Mße( i o |f u h mlpr the superintendence of ra „ n 0 f other compun.es who had made no complaint, it ia scarcely considered libly t) .,, t , w^tlll 11 ? 6 all r l * intorf"™ with the bring that has already taken place at this range. W| ie „ the error was discovered it was at once rectified. There must be ells when a target 6 feet by 6 feet could be subßtitu!edf orl |, o re g«. lat, ons, zeofbfe,tb y 4tVet, and while the cetilre could be certified to as according to Government regulation at 4 feet by 3 feet instead of 4 lect by 2 feet. Of course it is very annoying to those companies who have not yet fired to find that others have had the udvanfcago of a target above the regulation size, while they are compelled to use a reduced target and centre. It might be suggested that the proper way out of tho dilikulty would be | to allow those who usod the target to fire again at. this rouge,
