THE BIRD-IN-HAND MINE.
To tho Editor of the Thames Advertiser. Sik,—lf you will kindly oblige me by inserting this note I will not trouble you agaiu on the subject. In this evening's Star a party by tne naino of" Snooks" has pretended to comment on the explanation whic'a' appeared in your issue of this morning. I said pretended, because instead of confining his remarks to tho question at issue, he only entered into personal abuse of;all those who approve of the course taken by the directory. This indeed is characteristic of " Snooks," which seems vory closely allied, if not related to sneaks. Further, as the former signature is so impressive in the plural, it can be readily understood how it embodies in itself a whole family of the latter. Apart from the signature " Suooks" being so appropriate to such a letter as tho one referred to. I see nothiag to take notioe of except his charge of bigotry against tbe Messrs Murphy, and the bad grammar which was in my letter. To tbe first, 1 will answer that I have always found that tbe very word " bigot" is invariably used by such an individual as in reality is a real bigot, just in the same manner as a real blackguard chiefly makes use of blackguard words .even when they are most uncalled for, Wow, as to my bad gram, nar, No doubt " Snooks" (or sneak, whiohever titlo suits him bettor) would like the mine worked according to his uotioha o? grajnt-
mar, but I hope the directory will not do so, but will follow the steps they have taken, and doit according, not to syntax, but to the rules and tax of common sense. I will only state that if I don't know the "grammar" of the mine, I know well its geography, and therefore approve of the steps taken to explore it, and make it what, it should be—valuable to every person who in it is.—l am, &c, A Shabehoideb.
