THE LATE FIRE IN MURPHY BROTHERS' STORE.

To the Editor of the Thames Advertiser, Sib,—lt is being circulated that it is the opinion of a few that the late firo in tVlurphy's store was caused by a spark of fire from our chimney. How, in the face of the following facts, which we are able to bear out, could a spark from our chimney have caused it, when there was no cooking done after half-past four that afternoon? The wood we burn is hard wood, and I saw no fire whatever in the fireplace of our dwelling that night about 8 o'clock. Again, about sis inches square of the shingles are. burned on the one side, and on the other side of the store inside, a lot of empty boxes were charred and some burned through, and the papering and cauvaa on the ceiling burned. If the fire originated from the outside, how. account for the bumiug inside against the 1 burniug of about six iuches square of the shingles on the roof.—l am, &c., ' G. Eawkes.
