DEPUTATIONISING THE SUPERINTENDED.

; To tho Editor of tho Thames Advertiser. ' I Sir,— The business of deputationising tho Superintendent and Provincial Sooretary has been carried on during the past few days ad nauseum. The-Superinten-dent nppcarß to rather like the operation, and is certainly an adept in this line. No matter how important the subject to "the district, or the persons applying, tho result is the same in every bate'. Each 'deputation, is very kindly told that, the Superintendent will consider the matter which has been submitted to him, and that he will do the best he can. under the circumstances. Sometimes, however, a definite promise is givenf which is still, more rarely kept, This style of doing " business m»y be satisfactory, to his Honor,, but I doubt if it is at all satisfactory to the . Thames; people. It would be very interesting to> know upon what- policy the'votes of the Provincial' Council are expended; and whether these votes are passed in'such a 1 •! manner as to allow the Provincial Executive to use them in;such manner and for , such purposes as the, members of it see fit. .When, application was made to,;, his Honor fo.r.inoreawd wharf accommo-'' elation, he displayed a great desire to',' have the money spent in Bueh work as would form a part of the permanent harbour works. This. waß quite right, but-; then what had his Honor done .towards ■;. ascertaining information as-.:to, ,. what;-, might be considered permanent harbour t . ; improvements ? Nothing, notwithstand-..; ing his Honor's promise ,to do :so made to an influential deputation which waited upon him before tho meeting of the Assembly. Then there is the application of the Waiotahi Board for- about £2.000 for the construction of a dray road up the Waiotahi Creek. Did his Honor refer this question to the District Engineer; and if so, what was that officer's report? The board, not content with getting from the Government £800 for this road, aro now trying to compel . the Borough Council to. spend, soma. £1,200 to render the part which has been'; commenced of any use. They further,,; ask, with an amount of" cheek " whichia quite refreshing, for a further sum of.. £700 or £800 for goldfield tracks, &o. / Alas, for the chances of tho other boards .--i in the district if the Waiotahi-,Board gets anything like the amouat "asked J for. I think if the Superintendent would stay in his office in . Auckland, and let; applications be mado to him and his -' Executive in the usual mannerin writing/ and the matters carried out in a proper and businesslike manner, it would be ; more profitable to tho province and save" a number of the busy-bodies of this district a great amount of trouble and:. : time.—l am, &e., Observe \
