Tlio ship' City of Auckland' has arrived from London, after a passage of 107 •days. Sko brings 30 passengers, but no immigrants, Ono child died on the passage. She experienced terrific weather during the latter part of the voyage, and for four days had every sail that was set blown out of the ship. Her report shows that the very stormy weather was experienced during the latter half of the passage, and she arrives with scarcely a spare sail owing to the number carried away. Passengers :-Saloon : Mrs Balls and infant, J. Eock, D. Hutcheson, Miss Marguerite Jessie Sealey; Captain King, Mrs E. P. King, Master King ; Captain and Mrs Martin. Elizabeth Heffered; Messrs Butler, Story, Eagleheart, Staffles, Blewitt, Miller, Goldsmidt, Turner, Webster.—An attempt was made yesterday to serve a detainer on the ship ' JW iltiades,' iu the Eangitoto channel, while going out. The detainer was issued from the Admiralty Court at the suit of the crew of the' Lady iiowen,' for salvage. The crew of the ' Miitiades' threatened violence to the officers of the Court if they attempted to board the vessel. They therefore tied the writ to the cable and retreated. The ship sailed during the night. The difference at issue was settled this morning by the owner of the ' Lady Bowen' offering his crew £500 out of the £1,625 award, which they accepted. Jt appears the pilot on board the ' Miitiades' wa3 below when the bailiff first went alongside. Ono boatman got aboard ship, but was lowered again by a rope which was passed under his" arms. The amicable arrangement concluded between Captain Casey and the crew prevents the contemplated applicato set aside the whole award.—The s s. ' Taranaki' has arrived from the South, She brought 68 Scandinavians, being unable to land them at New Plymouth owing to the stormy weather. A difficulty is likely to arise regarding the responsibility of keeping them and conveying them back to.their destination.— The s.s.' Star of the South' has sailed for the Fijis.—The South British will pay a dividend of ten per cent, at the forthcoming half-yearly meeting. The interest from investments ■ amounts to the sum required for a dividend.—Mr Eeader Wood has convened a meeting of his constituents.
