The monthly 'competition; for Captain Murray's medal took- place bn Saturday at Parawai ranges, 400, 500, and 600 yards, 7 shots at each range. There was some excellent shooting made, and considerable excitement was evinced-by the competitors as the shooting drew to a close, as Sharpe, Dey, Brown, and Forgie were shooting almost., level the three last rounds..; Some of the competitors whose chance of winning were ■ doubtful, retired at 600 yards in order to allow the ; mateh to be, concluded that day. .Even then it was almost dark before the Jast. shot was .fired/and this was Vol. Forgie, who unfortunately.. missed, the only miss he has made in the last competitions. On the conclusion of the firing it; was; supposed that. Lieut.:, Deywas again at the top, but on adding up ,t,he scores Vol. Sharpe was found to tie Dey, and to be the highest at the last range, and therefore was declared the winner of the medal. Sharpe commenced •rather poorly, having made only 19 at 400 yards, but he pulled.up splendidly at 500 and 600 yards, and finished up with the fine score of 64 points.
