KAUWAERANGA HIGHWAY BOARD.

The usual weekly meeting of the .members of this Board was held at the Boardroom yesterday; present-Mr Macnab Mr Heron, Mr Scott. Eoad tothe OKjiETBBT.-The Secretary read a letter from the Parawai District Board in reference to the proposed new approach to the cemetery. The letter forwarded certain resolutions which had been agreed to by the Parawai Board, suggesting that the, Provincial Government should purchase several acres of land for a new approach, and that £100 should be expended.-The Chairman said that- the municipality, nvas the body now to deal with the subject.—Mr Heron thought there, would be no objection to : concur with the lutions, as they . Bimply, asked . the Provincial Government to-purchase the land, and to expend the money.—lt was a work which would be an advantage to the whole community.—lt was agreed to instruct the Secretary to answer that the Board would be glad to give any assistance they could in getting the Government to take the matter in hand.

Culvert in Eichjiond-stbeet.— V letter was read - from' Mr McLaren, engineer, stating that he had signed the warrant for the obtaining of the Government grant, on the condition that the culvert at Bichinond-street should be made. The specification, which had been siguedby Mr McLaren, was read, when there appeared to be ho mention of the culvert,—Mr Heron said it was absolutely necessary that something should be done. A'child was nearly drowned at the corner of llicbmond and Itollestonstreets the other day.— It was agreed to reply that the Board would point out the necessity of the work to the municipality.

.Resignation.— A letter was read from Dr. Kilgour,stating that as he had been elected a member of the Borough Council, he bad to resign bis position as-a highway trustee.—The resignation was accepted., f ' ■ Payment of OoNTßAcroßS.—Accounts were sent in from Mr MxOormick and Mr Dare for their contracts for tlie formation of Bichmond-street. Mr Dare's account amounted to £108, and Mr McOorniick's to £87.—1t was agreed to pay Mr McOoraiick £50 and Mr Dare' £80. ' An account was sent in, for £8, for work done on Saudesstreet, Block 27. — Mr Heron said that no authority had been given for this expenditure.-Mr Scott said that Mr McCormick had to take some stuff from the spot, and he sanctioned the formation of the part.—The account was ordered to stand over. Bates.—The Secretary stated that since last meeting several parties residing within the borough had forced their rates upon him, and he did not feel justified in refusing the money. He had £55 of rates in the bank. Engineee's Account.—Mr Walker, Engineer of the Board, sent in his account for plans and specifications he had proposed for works which had not been carried out. The account was left over till next meeting. A number of small accounts, to the amount of £19 2s were ordered to be paid. KoLLESTON-STBEET FOOTPATH.—It Was agreed to put a few loads of gravel or sand on that part of the footpath in Bol-leston-street where stuff had been taken to form Richmond-street. The Vacancy, on the Boabd.—Mr Heron proposed that Mr Horton should be elected as a member of the Board, in room of Dr. Kilgour. Mr Horton was a resident on Block 27.—Mr Scott proposed that Mr Greenville should be elected in order to represent the Karaka side of the Block.—The Chairman said that underthe circumstances he must decline giving a casting vote. He had no. interest in Block 27, and he had had serious thoughts of resigning himself.—lt was agreed to leave the matter over till there should bd a full meeting of the Board. . ■> .
