WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The Waitara Rifles' annual ball took place, on Thursday -evening. It was very successful. About *fifty couples were present, the elements being against a larger attendance. The hall was nicely decorated with flags, flowers, greenery, and crossed rifles. The supper was provided by Mr Hutchinson, and the music by the Waitara Orchestra, consisting of Miss Bluck (piano), Mr H. Spurdle (cornet), Mr JE. Beckbossenger (clarionet), and Mr Skelton (violin). Extras were played by Misses Badley, McKenzie, llattenbury, Wells, and Sampson. Col-our-Sergeajii Brabant was M.C., and kept the amusements merrily moving. A. euchre.. party was held on Friday evening. It wa,s well attended. The ladies' prize was won by Mrs Marsden, and the men's prize by Mr Henrickson. The Waitara Rifles' trophy matches begin on Thursday next.
