NIGHTCAPS MINE DISASTER.
Per Press Association. ! DUNEDIN, August 26. The claims of the relatives of the minors who were killed by "damp" when entering- the Nightcaps mine recently have been settled out of Court for £2200 and costs. The widows of miners Carson and Duncan receive £900 each, and the children of Welsh £400.
Replying to a deputation which asked for extra postal facilities in Wellington, Sir Joseph Ward this afternoon stated that it would be necessary before long to go in for the pneumatic tubes system in Wellington. This would obviate the necessity of equipping suburban offices with the paraphernalia of a big office. Siich a system would probably cost between £15,000 and £20,000.— Press wire.
