1 .TO THH EDITOR. j Sir, — The public are much indebted for the' 'statistical returns of the Colony and !your excellent comments thereon in tho Budget, of the 14th instant. j Each ,of the different Counties of tkc ! Colony .should carefully examine the ex■pbrts and imports from their own port to Jthis end. I should esteem it a particular favour to be supplied with a return of .the imports, of the ".articles, especially as food to man and beast, imported into our ' County, Taranaki, '" The Garden of New Zealand,'! during the last three months — April, May, and June. -Some months since I read a report of a iFarrtiefS 1 G^ub being deficient in essays or ,matt'er~for discussiont If lam not greatly mistaken the publishing of the returns isplicited may reasonably call for an inquiry. IWtiere is' the Garden 1 of New Zealand? and '.why so,^deficient inthe various products, climate and soil'' could produce for export 'in lieu of jmpprt?; t Are the tillers of the soil apathetic to the interest of the district? — I am, &c," «- • - * , Takanaki. ; July 20,1883.
