HELPING HAND SHOP.

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR

'Good-business was lone ut the Helping Hand Shop yesterday, the Jted Cross Fund benefiting to the extent of i' 36 4s 9d. The expenses were los 2d. The ladies of Happy Valley, - Tyakapuaka, \Vood, and the Port gave good contributions; also a JBrightwater resident, who sent ni a quantity of young .poultry. The committeej thank' them all for their help. , Contributions I were received from .Dovedale, Stoke, Ennerglyn, Tahunanui, the Fort, and, the city. The children in Standard I. at the Haven Road School sent in 6s 6-kl, which they had subscribed amongst tJiem, and iiJieir kind action was much appreciated. The boys of the Centraf School have , been most useful during the year in helping with the parcels. The takings or tne, Shop for the past thirteen months amounted to £1618 16s P6d. Of this.sum £252 was raised by the auctioning of the Mayoress's Flag. The expenses" were £26 6s 5d for the thirteen months: The lied Dross Fund -benefited to the extent of £1489 10s lOd, ■tie V.M.C.A. £59 17s 6d 3 and King George's \Funcl £4o Is 9d. The committee wish to thank all contributors and purchasers in the city and country who have" assisted to make the Shop a success, and when^they reopen on January 10th they would be glad of even .mure extensive support than they ha/ye hitherto had. They also desire to thank the owner of the shop and all who have helped by lending their cars and horses and traps, without which it would have been diihcult to carry on the business. They also thank the caretaker for the interest he lias taken in looking after the Shop.
