A meeting of the various patriotic committees, was held in,.-the'.Anglican schoolroom on Monday evening to arrange matters in connection with the I French Red Cross Tricolour Day. Mr. ! Charles Thorpe presided. r ' As it would not be convenient to hold any entertainment on- the 25th inst., it was decided to hold, a social evening of military events, vocal and other items, games, ' competitions, cards, etc., on Thursday, March 2nd. Mr H. Saunders kindly offered1 the hall free of charge. Advantage will •be .'taken of this .gathering to welcome back all returned solaiers, and also to entertain enlisted men waiting to go into camp. Short speeches will be made by Mr. C. E. Lowe, Mayor, Mr. R. P. Hudson, M.P., and Mr. Horatio Everett, chairman of the Waimea County Council. Major C. B. Brereton will reply on behalf of the returned soldiers. A sub-committee was formed' to,, arrange the programme, consisting of Misses Iluffam, Turner, Mrs. ShawThompson, and Messrs. Thorpe and H. Buckeridge The matter of selling tickets and tricolour flags was left in the hands of tho Motueka lied Cross Society, Mq-l tueka and Rilv.ika Recruiting Associ-| ation'3, and buttonholes the Motueka 1 Red Cross Society.
