MANY CHARGES.

Timaru, Jan. H. The youth named Birch, a fturniiam escapee, already commtited for trial for a murderous assault on his employer, O'Connell, at Clandeboye on November 7th, was before the Magistrate to-day on five charges of forging O'Conndl'3 name to cheques and uttering the cheques to Temuka shopkeeper.-;. The total amount involved was £15 10s. He was also charged with the thef^ of various articles and money of a total ■value of £5 10s, the property of O'Connell ; also with the theft of a bicycle valued at £9 at Mitcham on August12th, and with breaking and entering a dwelling at Mitcham on the same date and stealing a watch and chain and £4 15s in cash. The accused was committed for trial.
