BUSH FIRES.
Palmerston North, Jan. 14. The Pohangina valley is ablaze, . and the residents are having an ; anxious time. The stump fires have spread over tbe country between Awaho to beyond Komako. A large , Dumber of settlers had to fight the flames to save buildings aud fences, numbers of them being up all night mustering sheep to save them from ft bein g burnt, and otherwise protecting their property. This is themost destructive Gre for eieht years. " The danger is not yet passed, and rain is anxiously awaited by the settlers.
