A SHIPPING WAR.
Berlin, Jan. 13. A working agreement has been arranged between the Hamburg American and Nord'Deutscher- Lloyd lines, virtually amalgamating 1,652,---430 tous of shipping. New York, Jan. 13. An acute rate-cutting war has begun between the White Star and other members of Mr Pierpont Morgan's shipping combine against the Hamburg- American line and the Nord Deutscher-Ltoyd line. The Cunard line refuses to increase the rates for the Lusitania and Mauretania, and the Nord Deutscber-Lloyd line, has induced the Japanese mail line to abandon competition in tbe ports of Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Swatow, and Holhou.
