GRUESOME METHOD OF AMUSEMENT.
The greatest attraction at the; present time in Pans is the " Cabaret da JScuit, Brasserie de laMort " on the Boulevard Boohecbouart. The exterior is just like an ordinary house with the doorway deoked out in black for a funeral. On pushing aside the pall you find yourself in a dimly lit room decorated with funeral ornaments, pictures of dead bodies, skeletons, Bkulls, and the like. The tables are coffins, and the garcons call for " Biers " instead of " Beers." Dressed as the mates these garcons have tall hats, blaok gloves, and so on When ten or fifteen persons are there yoa go dowa into a vault-like passage and knock at the door which is opened by a monk, who shows you into a chapel where all are seated. In front of the congregation is a coffin standing on end, and well back, with black drapery all round. Anyone is invited to step into it, and is covered up to the shoulders with a white cloth, the harmonium is played solemnly, the light gradually goes down, and the person in the coffin seems to turn iato a skeleton. It is dona with mirrors. On leaving you put your tip into a hole in a skull and look through a window which has an arrangement of glasses and see yourself decked out in your coffin. Happily for the nerves of the ladies, and many of the men as well, there is plenty of laughing. Despite that it is so terribly realistic that some shudder and turn away.— • Pall Mall Gazette.'
