PROROGATION OF PARLIAMENT.

[BY EMCTRIO TELECHtAPH.J Willhtoton, Septemberß. The New Zealand Parliament was prorogued this afternoon until the 20th of December. Thirteen members of the House of Representatives were present. The following is,a schedule of the business done during the seseion :— During the twelve weeks of the session 161 pnblio Bills were introduced in one or both Houses i 76 being passed; 1 other Bill being reserved for the Eoyal assent of Her Majesty, and 84 Bills failing to pass from varioua causes, chiefly want of time. The Lower House originated 13? of these Bills, and the Upper House 24, these Utter being mostly introduced by Government into the Upper House first for convenience. Pour private Bills were introduced, 3 being passed. The petitions presented were - 548, of which 74 were from Maoris. Questions put to Ministers were 645 in number. The sitting, days numbered 58, the hours of sitting being 482, showing a daily average of about seven and a-half hours. The Legislative Counoil'S sittings were very short oh the average, and were on. fewer days than those of the Lower House.
