The following produce telegram was received from the New Zealand Loan & Mercantile Agency Company, London, Ist February : —Up to date 73,000 bales of wool have arrived. The tallow market is quiet. Mutton, £48 per ton ; beef, £46. The leather market is fiat. The Gazette this evening publishes a letter from the Colonial Secretary at Fiji, requesting masters of all vessels sailing from any Port in New Zealand to Fiji to produce billa of health. February 18. The Vogel banquet last night was an unprecedented success. A large number of people who purchased tickets were unable to Bit at the tables, and they had to drop in afterwards as they could. About 330 sat down. One fire brigade attended in full uniform. The Mayor was in the chair, and the sitting members and members of the Ministry eat at the right hand of Sir Julius Vogel. Upon entering the room Sir Julius was received with the utmost applause, also all through his speech, and upon sitting down he received deafening and prolonged applause. He touched upon what he had done at home, and on the question of abolition he said that, though it was not an unmixed good, the credit and finance of the Colony rendered it necesssary that it must be carried out, and in order to do it effectually he sincerely hoped that the ablest men on both sides would join hand in hand in working out the details of any scheme to take the place of Provincialism. On the whole, the speech was of a most conciliatory character.
