Leeston residents have decided to boost their- district. A Leeston Progress League has been formed, with tk,e following officers: President, I)r B. Volckinnn; vice-president, Mr R. T. Robertson; secretary pro tern., Rev. TL O. T. Hanby; treasurer, Mr R. G. Power. In addition there is a committee of 11 members. The league will wait upon the Ellesmere County Council at its next meeting, to discuss drainage and other such matters.

Regulations under the Public .Service Act, J9J2, have been amended as from May 5, providing that when an officer retires on superannuation after completing 40 years' service he may, at, the discretion of the Commissioner, be granted six months' leave on full pay, or an equivalent payment in lieu thereof by way of allowance; provided that the sick leave taken by him during his service has not exceeded six months, or that he has not at afiy time been granted extended leave of absence on full or half-pay.

The Bishop of Nelson is on a visit to Christchureh mainly in connection with the co-ordination of the several missionary societies of the church nmler the Provincial Board of Missions. This afternoon he received the children's lantern self-denial offering for missions in the Cathedral, and this evening he meets the Diocesan Missions Committee. He addresses the missionary workers on Monday evening, has a day of devotions and conference with the clergy on Tuesday, and speaks at a public meeting on Wednesday.

Norton, J .P., Albert Mitchell, first-class stoker on H.M.S. Renown, for whose arrest a warrant had been issued at 2 o'clock! this morning on a charge of beingabsent without leave, was remanded for eight days to permit of arrangements being made for him to join his vessel in Australia. Mitchell came to Lyttelton from Christchurch by the 6.55 train this morning but was just too late by a few minutes to get on board. Renown, by this time was then approaching tho moles.
