LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

NOTICE TO COBBEBPOXDENT. "X.V-Z."—Yes; all royalties are psj-ablc. RECONSTRUCTION. To the Editor of THE SUN. Sir, —I see by your import tiat the Church Council got some straight talk from the chairman of the KB. "The churches were too much absorbed in the protection of their creeds and dogmas," "Tbo religion of the fntnre mast bo intensely practical," etc. I did not notice that any recommendation was made that the R.V. should be re-roi*e«L In matters spiritual our " leader*" have always required to be pushed. It is futile to hope that the churches are going to be of much assistance in finding "that common ground whereon Capital and Labour can meet," beeMUW so few of either party are now adherents, and there is not likely Jo be any increase in membership until t*>ere has been a lot of jettisoning and reconstruction in the churches themselves. I don't think it is any use looking wistfully in the direction of the R.&, as I am told that about 2 per cent, would 1)6 the average attendance at church parades if it was -not compulsory. What is wrong! Have ,the chuiches lost something—the old spiritual "gifts"?—l am, etc., QUERY. F.S.—Sir A. C. Doyle says: "Concentrate more upon the life and Ices upon the death of Christ'-' When reconstructing we should not let old shibboleths hamper us unduly. TEAM TRAILERS. To tbo Editor of THE SUN. Sir, —It is reported that the Sumner Borough Council at its last meeting turned down a resolution requesting the Tramway Board to remove the old trailers from the Sumner line. In view of the fact that &9 per cent of passengers on this and other lines denounce these .old ramshackle vehicles, every time they are' forced to use them, it would be interesting to learn what would have been the fate of that resolution had the Mayor of Samner not been chairman of the Tramway Board. Or would those councillors who tnrned the resolution down have voted differently had the car which met with tie accident been loaded with Sumner residents, and perhaps their own relatives, instead of visitors! Meanwhile let us hope that the gentlemen referred to will be consistent, and will, whenever possible, patronise that particular type of rolling which they uphold, And leave room in the other cars for the growlers.—l am, etc., TEAILEEITIS. THE STRAY DOG NUISANCE. To the Editor of THE SUN. Bir, —I notire by the papers that on* Mayor is going to take steps to keep the stray dogs off the street*. This will be a very great benefit to Cbristchurch, as there are a very great number of lost <3ogs about the streets. During the nigbt they wander about upsetting the dust bins in search of food. Then, the wind blows the refuse about the streets. Then look what a dirty mess they make about our corner stores. The business people go to the trouble of putting water troughs outside the store doors which looks veTy untidy. My son. who keeps a grocer's store, tells me.he had several 501b bags of flour destroyed by dogs coming right into the store. Theie is not a city in New Zealand where there are so many stray dogs as there are in Christchnrea. I feel sure not 75 per cent of the owners of dogs take out a dog license. Our worthy Dorter deserves all credit for the steps he intends to take.—l am, eta. STRAY DOGa
