PIGEON FLYING.
The Canterbury Flying Club flew a race from Napier on Saturday. The birds were liberated by the station master at 10.10 a.m., in a violent westerly gale. Owing to the late liberation and the severe weather conditions a good many birds failed to reach their lofts. The winning bird, the property of J. Milne, put up a sterling performance, flying the distance of 861 miles 555 yds in llhr 7min 41sec, a speed of 952 yds per minute. The following is the order in which the competitors were placed:— J. Milne 952 yds, F. Wilson 950 yds, H. Browning 949 yds, W. Blanchard 917 yds, F. Kibblewhite 911 yds, G. Anderson 758 yds., A. Smith 720 yds, R. Ashworth 500 yds. A. Gerard and R. Draper also competed.
