BOWLING.

NEWS FROM THE GREENS. For *he first -time in *he competition Canterbury wi'.s defeated last Saturday in the Bed Pennant. Also, for the first time in the competition, a club which lost the Red Pennant game won the White Pennant fixture. In the Red Pennant, West's rink could not go wrong, beating Manson's by 37 to 10. Laker defeated Redpath after a close game, and Ronayne scored the only Red victory for Canterbury against Shearman. Canterbury just got home in the White Pennant, Borland beating P. L. Davies by a point, while F. J. Barlow ran up 37 to Taylor's 12 in the other rink. The Blue Pennant games were in favour of Edgeware, though Canterbury got a win and a draw. LINWOOD v. SYDENHAM.

The game between Linwood and Sydenham in the Red and White Pennants was one of the best in the competition up to the present. Each club put in strong rinks, and there were some excellent contests/ The Red skips for Linwood were Snell, Killner, and Price, each of whom can be counted on to come to light' When wanted. They were opposed by J. Taylor, N. "Young, and- J. Hadfield, three good representative Sydenham players. Snell, with Howarth as third, got home on Taylor' by '24 to 15, while Killner scored a narrow victory over Young. Hadfield and Price had; a fine game, and' the Sydenham man got there by six points. In the White Pennant, play was even closer, Mai-k Kershaw getting a point win from Tom McGallan, and Velvin losing by. a point to E. C. Chegwin. In the Blue Pennant, Sydenham got a bad doing, and if it hacf not been for Pal-' vert's 29 to 13 against J. Brunt, there would have been a big deficiency. Tli6 aggregate scores on the match were Linwood 254, Sydenham 226, and Linwood got a triple .win in the Pennants. CHRISTCHURCH v. RANGIORA. Christchurch scored a solid win against Rangiora, though there was hot much difference in the aggregate scores. In the Red Pennant each of the Christchurch rinks won, though in two of them the margin was only three points. In the White Pennant, Webber's Rangiora rink put up a fine performance against a strong Christchurch combination skipped by Seager, and won by 23 to 9. This was the only encouragement Rangiora got, .as both Pennants went to the, city team. ; •. - . - UNITED v. OPAWA. •

Opawa opened the season with a capital performance against Linwood, but the last two matches have not been up to standard. In the match last Saturday against United, Opawa was pretty badly beaten. Two rinks went down in the Eed, while another played a drawn game. In the "White Pennant, Opawa's record was worse, each rink sticking on the fatal 13, while United scored 26 and 19. In the Blue Pennant two wins 'went to Opawa, but Stark put iip a big score against A. S. Bruce. The aggregate scores were 175 to United against 134 to Opawa, and United got all the Pennant wins. KAIAPOI v. PAPANUI. Kaiapoi defeated Papanui pretty decisively in the Eed.Pennant match, winning in all three rinks, and scoring a total of 72 to 47.. TOUENAMENTS. The centre holds a meeting tonight, at which the arrangements for the South Island tournament, to be held in Christchurch in January next, will be put in hand. The Timaru Centre is holding a tournament at Christmas. A St. Albans rink, consisting of Shaw, Wood, Le Cren, and Boui-n, will be competing. BOWL TESTING.
