motor cycle at an excessive speed, was fined 29/- and costs. Thos.'; Clias. Hatchard said he believed he had exceeded the speed limit when riding his motor cycle along the Eiccarton Road. He had been in a hurry to get along. The senior-sergeant said that Hatchard's speed had been estimated at 40 miles an hour, and he was fined 20/- and costs. das. Warnoek Crec Nixon, for having : a motor car at an excessive speed, was lined 20/- and costs, as were Edward Luttre.ll and. Fredk Hookman on similar charges. Jas. Mills, for having driven a motor car across the Lincoln Road railway crossing while an engine was approaching, was fiucd 20/- and costs. It was said an accident was narroAvly averted. ,» For having cycled on the footpath, Frank Bashford was fined 10/- and costs, Hilda Beardsell 5/- without costs, and Henry Watt 10/- and costs, while Herbert Glasson, who cycled without a light and gave a false address to the constable, was fined S/- and costs and 10/- and costs on the two charges. Fredk. Knowks, for having boarded a moving train at Linwood, was lined 5/- and costs. (Before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M.) ROGUE AND VAGABOND. A young man named James Mills was charged with being a rogue and a vagabond, in that he was found illegally by night on the premises of Manning and Co. Mr A. W. Bishop appeared foT the accused, who pleaded guilty to the charge of being illegally on the premises. Mr Bishop submitted that Mills was a man with a family, and in regular employment. He had been on the *'burst," and had k terrible thirst on this occasion. He had gone to the place ivith a bottle under his arm and a loaded revolver had been presented at his head, •which had frightened the life out of him. Accused was convicted, and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. ■ The French Mint has been moved to ' Casted-Sarrasin, a small town near Toulouse, and the two little marks on either Bide of the date, which show the place of origin, will be altered.
