A.O.F. CONFERENCE.

FORMING HIGH COURT. The conference of delegates from different lodges of the Ancient Order of Foresters which has been sitting in Christchurch for the purpose of forming a Subsidiary High Court, concluded yesterday. The fact that the court had been established was mentioned in our issue of last Tuesday, but the following details were arranged at the conclusion of the conference: —The constitution of the court-provides that there shall be no interference with local funds; that a fixed annual contribution shall be every affiliated body according to membership, and that each lodge or affiliated body shall have equal representation at meetings of the High Court, irrespective of the number of members. A provisional executive of eight officers was arranged for, to take charge of preliminary matters tmtil the High Court shall meet. The following resolution was also carried unanimously: —"This representative conference of the A.O.F. in New Zealand welcomes the Government's announcement that legislation will be promoted concerning provision against sickness and invalidity. Whilst recognising the good motives that prompted the enactment of compulsory insurance in Great Britain, the conference does not consider that New Zealand conditions warrant similar legislation. In view of the fact that any legislation on the subject must affect friendly societies, this conference is of opinion'that any suggested legislation should be submitted to the large Orders in the friendly society movement in time to receive consideration by their members before its actual passage into law.''
