Mr J. J. Dougali arrived from Wellington this morning. Major Kirk left for Wellington last evening.
Messrs F. M. Shortt and C. F. Oliver, of Dunedin, and J. Carey, of Gore, are staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Messrs F. G. Wells (Adelaide), A. S. Whitcombe (Dunedin), and S. A. Prevost. (Adelaide) ax*e amongst the guests staying at Colter's Hotel. Mr C. W. Budge, an old resident of Hawcra, died in that town on Sunday at the age of seventy. Mr Budge was an enthusiastic supporter of cricket.
The death has occurred of Mr William Mitchell, a well-known pioneer of Stafford, West Coast, aged 71. He leaves a grown-up family of ten.— Press Association.
Visitors to Christchurch staying at Warner's Hotel include Messrs F. de G. English, of Halifax (England), 11. A. Jenkins, of Wellington, and R. G. Eaingcr, of Auckland. Troopers Stewart,, Morgan, and Matthews, of the main New Zealand Expeditionaiy Force, who were landed at the first port of call owing to ill health, returned to Wellington on Tuesday by the Moeraki.
Alderman Betts, Mayor of Goulburn, New South Wales, and a grandson of the Rev. Samuel Marsden, has accepted an invitation to attend the Marsden Centenary celebration. —Press Association.
