Mails for Australian States, India, China, Ceylon, Japan, Hong Kong, arid South Africa close at Christchurch on-. Thursday afternoon. On and after to-day (Tuesday), the North Island mails, per ferry steamer, will close at the Chief Post, Office at 6 p.m.;, ana late fee letters at 6.30, instead of 6.15 and 6.45 respectively as at present. This alteration is necessary owing to the ferry train leaving Christchurch 15 minutes earlier than at present; also mails by the afternoon trains to Waikari and will close at 3.30 p.m. instead of 4.15 p.m., the train leaving Christchurch at 4.33 p.ni; instead of at 5.20 p.m.
