WOOL SALES. AUCKLAND. Press Association. AUCKLAND, November 22. Between-eleven and twelve thousand bales have been catalogued for Thursday 's wool sale, which constitutes a record. The quality is good, and high prices are expected.

NAPIER. NAPIER, November 22. The first wool sale of the season was held in the Municipal Theatre yesterday, when over 17,000 bales were offered to a good attendance of buyers. En spite of restrictions on aceount of the war, bidding was spirited, and there was an all-round increase in prices. The quality of the wool offered was not up to the usual standard at this tune of year. The" fleece was much heavier iu grease, and the westerly winds which have been experienced were responsible for the presence ox much more dust than usual. The following is a comparison of prices ruling at this sale and the first sale last year:—

Lamb is" dull of sale, and prices have declined, partly owing to the competition «vith this season's Australian. Canterbury (up to 421b), 6gd; heavy-weight, 6j}d; other than Canterbury 6|d. Beef: Thete is no alteration in the market since last week. New Zealand hinds, 6 3-16 d; fores, sjjd. The chilled beef market is affected by the decrease in arrivals. Hinds, 6fd; fores, s§d. Butter: The market is firmer, with an active demand for high grades. Danish is steady at 139/- to 142/-. New Zealand is firm at 126/- to 130/-; unsalted, 128/- to 132/-. Australian is firm, with more enquiry at 124/- to 128/-. Siberian is in fair demand at 118/- to 120/-. Irish creamery is slow at 124/- to 13/-. Argentine is steady at 120/- to 124/-. Cheese: The market is firm, with an upward 'tendency. Canadian white and coloured, 76/- to 77/-. I cannot quote prices for New Zealand cheese. The Corinthic is in dock discharging now. Hemp: There is a better demand for hemp, on spot, but transactions have been light. New Zealand, good fair grade £22 10/- per ton; fair grade, £2l; fair current Manila, £23 10/-. The output from Manila for the week was 12,000 bales. Wool: The market is strong for ail stocks and advancing for all grades of medium and coarse crossbreds, but the market is a shade weaker for all grades of merinos and fine crossbreds.
