NEW BRIGHTON NOTES.

TSfew Brighton is expecting a very fcusy season this summer. Nearly , all the houses are already booked, the reason being that many are not going on their usual expensive summer holiday, on account of the war, but are going to be satisfied with a stay at the eeaside.

The annual municipal and combined local bodies and Territorial church parade is to be held on Sunday morning at the Church of England, when the schoolboys' drum and fife band is to assist the' local band in the music.

The Convalescent Cottage Committee bisfng so very urgently in need of finanEial help several concerts and entertainments are being given to assist the committee out of their present trouble, and to this end the Burwood and New Brighton Girls' Friendly Societies gave an entertainment on Wednesday night last, Which was a very great success. The JNe'.w Brighton girls gave the comedietta, " Little Women," which was very well received.

A verv pleasant ceremony took place on Wednesday night last, during the open-air band performance. Between two of the items the Mayor (Mr C. H. Winny) presented the Eoyal Humane Society's bronze medal to one of the young members of the band, Harold Bailey, for saving the life of a young man who was drowning in the sea a few weeks, back. His Worship congratulated Mr Bailey on his being the recipient of the society's medal, and after pinning the medal on his breast wished him a long and prosperous life. Mr Bailey is practically a native of Kew Brighton, and naturally the New Brighton people feel very proud of him.

- The usual weekly picture entertainment had an unusually full house on Thursday night last, as they had promised to help the local school prize fund by giving half of the proceeds of the evening's takings for that purine, and the result was moat gratifying, the house being packed to overflowing.
