A GLOOMY VOYAGE.
FIVE DEATHS ON TURAKINA. , Press Association. WELLINGTON, November 16. The Turakina arrived from London to-night, and passengers were thankful that a voyage extraordinary for its gloominess was at an end. There were five deaths on board in 22 days, including one from suicide. A steward named Frederick Mackworth succumbed to an attack of pneumonia; a trimmer named John Lewis (who had worked himself into a state of frenzy over the war) jumped overboard; Dr Llewellyn Thomas, the ship's surgeon, died from the "effects of a chill; Denish Walsh, a third-class passenger, died of double pneumonia; and Laurence Mandsley, a farmer belonging to Sputh Canterbury, succumbed to enteric fever and heart failure.
