Shortly after 2.30 o'clock yesterday morning a fire broke out. in a six-roomed dwelling situated at • 136 Liixwood Avenue. The Fire Brigade were quickly on the scene, but the flames were so strong that practically nothing could be done to save either the house or contents. The house was occupied by Mr Henry Daniel Gundsell, but it is thought by the neighbours that with his wife he left for Oxford on the previous day. Mrs Haultain, of Little Akaloa, is believed to be the owner of the house. The insurance on the residence is not available.
