OUR FISHERIES.
PROFESSOR PRINCE'S REPORT. (Sun Special.} . WELLINGTON, October 28. Professor Prince's report on the fisheries of the Dominion was tabled this afternoon in the House of Representatives. '"..-.'.' "He recommends a systematic survey of the fishing ground and a protection and patrol system, similar to that in Canada. One of the most; important recommendations is the intrpduction of the northern herring and the development of the herring fisheries. To encourage fishermen, duty should betaken off gear. He-also urges- that wider powers be given acclimatisation Societies, the past work of which he says eannot be praised too highly., The report deals most comprehensive,ly with every class of fishing, and concludes by recommending the establishment of a Dominion Fisheries Department, but does not favour Government or municipal steam trawlers.
