END OF SESSION.

UNEXPECTED POSTPONEMENT. HOUSE. WILL SIT NEXT WEE&. {From our own Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, October 27. There is no chance of the session con-1 eluding this week, as was hoped. Wellinformed members on both sides of the House are confident that it will be Wednesday of next week before all the business can be disposed of. Although a big list of Bills has been put through in the last few days the Order Paper still contains many measures of considerable importance on which there is bound to be a good deal of discussion, not necessarily hostile. There are also one or two Bills yet to be introduced. It was fully expected yesterday that the House would sit until the creaking of the wheels of the milk-cart heralded' the dawn, but to the surprise of all those not '' in the know,'' the House rose before 2 a.m. It transpired that the Government had arranged with the Opposition that the passing of the first item in the Public Works Estimate jvould mark the end of the .business for the night. Knowing this, the members likely to • speak postponed their oratorical efforts until another day. Such an agreement woula not have been arrived at had either side, especially the Government, been determined that Saturday should see the end of the session. Even if the House were ready to finish by that date it is very problematical whether business in the Council would be far enough forward to allow of a rising of the General Assembly, The Upper House has "got down to business" during the last few days, but it is an open secret that there may yet be some question as to adjustment of possible amendments to one or two measures between the two branches of the Legislature. Whatever happens, the fact is clear that Parliament will not rise until Wednesday next.
