THE SOLDIERS' CLUB.
The committee of ladies who have ben arranging the Sydney Street (Wellington) schoolroom as a clubroom for the Expeditionary Force had a quite i informal opening evening on Saturday (reports the "New Zealand Times"). There was no time to send out invitations to any citizens interested in the movement, and there was no ceremony of any kind. The room was prettily decorated with patriotic colours and beautiful pot plants (lent by Mrs 11. D. Bell), and arranged with card and reading tables, with magazines and games. The writing-room was well patronised and much appreciated. A programme of songs and recitations gave great pleasure, and supper was served about 9 o 'clock. The proceedings finished with • the National Anthem, sung with great heartiness. On Sunday the room was open at 4.30, and Mrs F. M. B. Fisher and a party of friends were kept busy serving refreshments from .5.30 to 7 p.m. The committee are grateful for, the many kind offers of help, but so far nearly three weeks' evenings are very completely arranged for, and the honorary secretary will make it known as soon as any more help is required* The committee would be glad of gifts of money or provisions, and any member would be glad to give information as to the special requirements. The gymnasium is being fitted upland will be ready for use on Tuesday, and the club-roc-n is open every evening 6 to 10 o'clock. .;.-::v •
