SUMMIT ROAD ASSOCIATION.

. Hi EXECUTIVE MEETING. A meeting of the executive was held on "Monday last, Mr George Harper presiding. There were also present: — Messrs Speight, W. G. Jamieson, K. Neave, A. S. Taylor, H. G. Ell, M.P., i and C. 'H. Gilby, secretary. Dr Cockayne wrote resigning his position as honorary botanist of the association, and also as a member of the executive owing to his removal to Wellington. The resignation was received with regret, and a cordial vote of thanks was passed to Dr Cockayne for the very valuable services rendered by him in the past. Mr R. M. Laing was appointed honorary botanist, and Mr J. J. Thomson a member of the executive. Mr Ell reported at length regarding the reserves now under control of the Scenic Board, stating that the Governor Bush had now been fenced in, while one or two additional reserves were in process of being acquired. He stated that the sum of £2OO having been voted by the Heath - cote Road Board towards the cost of the Dyer's Pass deviation road from Vic[toria Park to Dyer's Pass, and a correjsponding amount having been set aside by the Government as a subsidy, this work was to be put in hand immediately. .With regard to,the house that had been erected for the caretaker at Kennedy's Bush, a sum of £l5O had been voted by the Government.which was to be paid over to the contractors on accounts With regard to the £IOO kindly donated by Mr Eairbairn, the Premier had agreed to subsidise this amount £ for £, on the understanding that the amount be expended in the extension of the present premises. He (Mr Ell) produced plans showing the suggested additions, which included a roomy verandah 20 feet x 12 feet, to be used as a tearoom, and a detached washhouse and kitchen combined. Mr Jamesom estimated the cost of these additions at about £2OO, so that the board's ordinary income would not require to be diverted for this purpose. After discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Ell, seconded by Mr Neave, that the work be proceeded with. The meeting then closed.
