Major A. E. M. Norton, D.5.0., managing director of the Bristol and Dominions Producers' Association, will lecture on "The adoption of the Danish principle of marketing our produce direct to the large retailer and the legitimate wholesaler, throughout the United Kingdom," at Ashburton on October 6. The following afternoon at 3 o'clock he will speak on the same subject in Christchurch at the' Agricultural and Pastoral Association's rooms. He will lecture at Rangiora on October 7 at S p.m., at Hawarden on the Bth jjist. at 1 p.m., and Kaikoura on the 9th at 8 p.m. Major Norton will also speak on the future operations •of the Bristol and Dominions Association and the value of farmers' co-operative associations as distributing mediums. A meeting of Riccarton ratepayers who are interested in the south area loan proposals was held in the Town Hall last evening, the Mayor (Mr J. Brown) presiding. The loan proposals were brieily explained by Mr Brown, and they were discussed by the meeting. The opinion was expressed that 'channelling and asphalting should not be gone on with in streets which would ultimately have to be widened. The Mayor said that the council likely to go on with work in those streets, but would leave them to the la§t, and carry out the widening work at the same time. The rate would be two and one-ninth'of a penny in the pound. The poll will be held tomorrow..
