BOROUGH COUNCIL. Tlie ordinary meeting of the Rangior.9 Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last evening, the Mayor, Mr C. I. Jennings, presiding. There were present: Crs H. Boyd, W. Wright; W. Eowe, W. MoGruer, F. B. Lane, 11. Blackett, W. Smith. Correspondence was received from the Canterbury Patriotic Fund Committee offering to lend the 'council funds at 4 per cent. —The letter was received. The Port Chalmers Borough Council wrote offering cast-iron street gas lamps for sale'. —The offer was referred, to the Gas Committee for report. Leave was granted to the Woolsto.i Brass Band to hold a concert on a Sunday in October. The town clerk of Huntly Borough Council wrote asking for support towards the assistance of those affected by the recent disaster. lie pointed out that there were 58 children under tha age of 14 left fatherless. —It was agrool to hold a meeting of residents to consider what could, be done in llangiora to assist.The Mayor's action in refusing to attend a deputation to the Prime Minister re the fund for supplying every man joining the Expeditionary Forcft, with £5 was endorsed. It was resolved to approach the Northern A. and P. Association witk regard to the use of their room for the convenience of the ladies visiting Rangiora on sale day. It was decided to take legal action against Mr S. Webber for not removing his fence as directed by the council. A committee consisting of the Mayor, and Crs Boyd, Blackett, and McGruor was set up fro go into the cost of installing a high-pressure water supply. CRICKET. A match between two teams representing .town and country studeuts attending the Rangiora High School was played at the recreation ground, Rangiora., yesterday afternoon, the former team winning by 68 runs. For Country A. K. Rule scored 48 and 22 not out, and for Town Mehrtens 41 and Ilickmott 50 not" out. > TROUT TRY. Yesterday the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society forwarded 1-5,000 brown trout fry. They were liberate.! at various points in the Ohoka stream. Local anglers may look for some higliclass fishing in the near future.
