LAWN TENNIS.
NEW BRIGHTON CLUB. The twentieth annual meeting of 3 members of the New 1 Brighton Lawn 1 Tennis Club was held in the sehools room ..last evening. The president of the club (Mr R. C. Bishop) occupied 1 the chair, and there was a large at--1 tendance-'of members present. j The report of the special committee aj)pointed to consider the question of laying down an additional court and to consider also the matter of increased > accommodation to the pavilion, water • supply, and conveniences, was adopted. • The annual report and balance-sheet » were' adopted. . The president congrat- • ulated the club upon its exceedingly 3 sound financial position. The following officers were elected ' for the ensuing year:—Patron, Rev. H. • H. Mathias; president, Mr .. R. C. ? Bishop; vice-presidents, Messrs C. Jackson, G. W. Russell, M.P.; J. A. Flesher, > C. H. Winny, G. W. Staniland,- J. • Cheekley, Captain A. W. Owles, C. H. • Opie, and T. Bullock; hon. secretary • and treasurer, Mr R. Browning; man- > agement committee, Mrs Lockwood, > Misses Pattrick and Clarke, and Messrs < G. W. Bishop, W. G. Lockwood, C. But- ■ ler, and P. C. Spratt; hpn. auditor, Mr ' Chas. H. Franks; delegate to Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association), Mr R. Browning. The opening of the season was fixed for Saturday, October 10. The question of entering teams for the association's inter-club matches was referred to the Management Committee for careful consideration.Captain A. W. Owles; having notified Ids intention of donating two trophies for competition during the' coming season, a-very hearty vote "of thanks was accorded him for his generous gift. A vote, of thanks was accorded to the donors of special prizes during the past year. WAIKABI CLUB. At the annual meeting of the Waikari Lawn Tennis Club, officers were elected as follow:—Patron, Mr James Douglas; president, Rev. G. W, H. Harding; vicepresidents, Rev. A. Kirkland, Dr Little, I andjtfr J. Moore; hon. treasurer, Mr S. Douglas; hon. secretary, Mr R. Borland; • committee, Mesdames Saundercoek and Taylor, Misses Hughie, Young, and MeConnell, Messrs Blake, Keppler, Saundercoek, and Meredith; captain, Mr J. Meredith; vice-captain, Miss Hughie. SOUTHBRIDGE CLUB. The officers elected at the anual meeting of the Southbridge Tennis Club are: I —Patron, Hon. R. H. Rhodes; president, . Mr J. C. Free; -vice-presidents, Messrs J. Storry, W. Scott, A. J. Inwood, E. F. I Chapman, Misses Cryer, Tulloch, and I M. Abbatt; secretary and treasurer, Mr L. Andrews; general committee, Messrs W. Butler, C. Thompson, G. Abbatt, J. S. Inwood, H. Money, Mrs Thompson, Misses Hill, G. Riordan, and S. Withers; auditor, Mr W. Scott. It was decided to hold the opening day on September 00, and to arrange a match, Town v. Country, for October 17. The following sub- - committees were appointed:—Works committee, Messrs Thompson, Butler,and E. F. Chapman; match and ladder committee, Miss Hill, Messrs Chapman, and Andrews.
